I was born and raised on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. I moved away from Hawaii, to California where I earned my BA in Dance from Mills College. After years of dance left me with chronic joint pain, I found my way to Pilates. Pilates strengthened me in a way that I had never felt before. I began to have less joint pain. After moving to New York City in 2002 I started teaching Pilates mat and completed my Pilates teacher training in 2005 at the Kane School of Core Integration, now located in Kinected studio. In 2006 I completed a 200 hour Yoga teacher training from Yogaworks.
I have always enjoyed stretching and after I stopped dancing I realized that a lot of my joint pain was coming from over stretched joints. I didn’t have enough strength in my muscles to support my joints. It wasn’t until 2012 when my husband and I joined a Crossfit gym and started following a Paleo diet that I really began to feel less pain. I discovered the important roles of food and building strength in maintaining a healthy body.
